8/7/2009 One of the interesting things about Door County is the history here. A new book just published is a journal of the captain of the Washington Island ferry. It relates a thirty year history of travel to and from the island. It is available through www.bleidoorcountytimes.com and at selected book sellers in Northern Door. Another interesting book, originally written in the late 1870's and recently republished by Norbert Blei is "A gleam Across the Waves." It is the personal reflections of the keeper of the Pilot Island lighthouse and his wife, their life and experiences. That book is available through www.norbertblei.com . Despite gloom and doom ecomomic news in the national media, Door County is holding its own with tourism. Real Estate is understandably slow, but Apple Ridge at Eames Farm continues to flourish with a new housing start and one planned for later this fall or spring of 2010.
7/30/2009 The modern-day Eames Farm is celebrating its 20th year in 2010. The development of the property was begun by Bob Doneff, resident of Manitowoc, Wisconsin who had a vacation home in Egg Harbor for a number of years. The first condominium units were completed in 1993 and received buyer attention immediately. Between 1993 and 2000, 72 units were built and sold, making the Hill at Eames Farm the second most successful development in Door County. Attention to detail, from flagstone chimneys, to the cherry orchard on the west edge of the property, to the 2.5 mile walking trail system throughout the 235 acres, made Eames farm unique in condominium living here. Buyers not only enjoyed Eames Farm as a seasonal get-away, they involved themselves in the village and local area. Some served on committees in the village government, others volunteered their time and treasure with organizations such as the Birch Creek Music Center, Peninsula Plyers Theatre, Lions Club and others. Today, there are more than 140 families that call Eames Farm their home away from home or their year-round residence. They enjoy more than 50 acres of green space around them and the cherry orchards at the Hill at Eames Farm and Harbor Vista, as well as the Seaquist orchards that border the east side of the property. They also enjoy the evening sunset views and the lights of the villages across the waters of Green Bay at night. There is no other place like Eames Farm.
